Paramedic

 
 
A paramedic is trained to administer out-of-hospital emergency care to the sick and injured. Paramedics 鈥渂ring the emergency room to the patient鈥 by providing advanced life support skills to stabilize patients both on the scene and en route to a hospital.Paramedics represent the highest level of training in pre-hospital care and they are an important part of the chain of survival in emergency medical intervention. Although the training is rigorous those who succeed will experience exciting challenges and achieve a high degree of personal satisfaction.  Upon successful completion of the paramedic program, the graduate is eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam for paramedic and upon submission of an application to the State of Mississippi, is then eligible for employment with an ambulance service.

Being a national and state certified EMT is one of the pre-requisites for enrolling into the Paramedic Program of study. If you are not yet a certified EMT,, but you are interested in becoming a paramedic, please contact the Program Director of Emergency Medical Technology for advice on how to initially qualify and enroll in the EMT Program

果冻传媒app-Division of Health Sciences, Emergency Medical Technology program, in compliance with our school鈥檚 mission statement, seeks to provide new opportunities to the citizens in the college's service area. Serving as a catalyst for economic and community development, 果冻传媒app provides accessible, affordable, diverse, and quality educational opportunities and services that foster a nurturing teaching and learning environment, promote intellectual and work readiness skills, support personal and professional growth, and prepare students to enter the job market or transfer to a college or university. We will maintain a commitment to EMS agencies and other communities of interest within our service area and will foster an environment of learning for the purpose of educating pre-hospital professionals in the practice of basic and advanced EMS care.

It is our goal to prepare entry level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior, professionalism) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels. We will maintain this goal by being consistent with and responsive to the demonstrated needs and expectations of the communities of interest for whom we serve. We will accomplish this by:
  • Using current lecture materials with lesson plans and syllabi that mirror National EMS Education Standards and the National Registry of EMTs
  • Using computer testing software that mirrors National EMS Education Standards and National Registry of EMTs
  • Providing clinical practice using the most current equipment available for practical application and scenario-based learning.
  • Assessing how each student responds to a patients needs to include development of rapport, as well as working as part of a healthcare team, to include a capstone experience as team leader in a variety of patient care situations.
