(Clarksdale, Mississippi) – The Social Science Department at ýapp is excited to announce the launch of its Winter Coat and Toy Drive, a heartwarming community initiative designed to provide support to local children in need. This year’s drive, in partnership with the Coahoma Opportunities Head Start Program, aims to bring warmth and joy to children facing the challenges of winter by gathering essential clothing items and toys for the holiday season.
The department is seeking donations of clean or gently used winter coats (sizes 2T-6T), as well as hats, scarves, gloves, and toys to benefit children in the Head Start Program. All donated items will be distributed to families in the Clarksdale area to ensure children are well-equipped for the cold months ahead. In a region where winter conditions can be harsh, the drive offers a meaningful way for the community to come together and provide essential warmth and happiness to local children.
“We’re thrilled to continue our tradition of giving back,” says Vivian Williams, Social Science Department Chair. “With the help of our community, we hope to not only meet the basic needs of warmth but also to share the joy and spirit of the holiday season with these young children. A simple act of kindness, like donating a coat or a toy, can make a world of difference.”
Donations will be accepted from October 24 through December 3, 2024. Community members are encouraged to drop off their contributions at one of two convenient locations: the second floor of Whiteside Hall or the J.W. Addison Building on the Coahoma Community College campus. All items collected will go directly to children enrolled in the Head Start Program, where they will be distributed to those who need them most.
The Coahoma Opportunities Head Start Program provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, and nutrition services to children and families in the community. Through programs like Head Start, ýapp aims to support the well-being and development of young children, empowering them and their families for a brighter future.
As the holiday season approaches, the Social Science Department hopes to see an outpouring of support from the campus and surrounding community. Those interested in participating or seeking more information are encouraged to reach out to Vivian Williams at (662) 621-4278.
This year’s Winter Coat and Toy Drive serves as a reminder of the power of community. Whether you’re donating a coat, a hat, or a toy, your contribution will make a difference in the lives of children in need. Join us in making this winter a season of warmth, giving, and joy.
